Outlander famous last words8/30/2023 Roger offers the students a valuable moral lesson: that the words we choose shape our thoughts and, often, our outlook on life. Roger is a confident orator and someone who teaches his students to think critically: to choose their words wisely and to make them meaningful-something he tries to live by. This is not something we have seen in quite this same way before now. This is Roger at his best, in his “comfort zone” at his profession. This ‘flashback’ allows us to emphasize Roger’s strengths: his teaching gift and the rapport he has with his students, who respect and admire him. This effectively grounds the unfolding story in Roger’s point of view and his experience of the world around him, prompting us to wonder, perhaps, why he might be recalling this particular moment… and offering glimpses of the various themes which play out during the remainder of the episode.
